Women’s Day

International Women’s Day (IWD) is still more prominent in Hungary than Valentine’s Day and is a time when employers give flowers to their female employees. In some countries this occasion has the equivalent status of Mother's Day where children give small presents to their mothers and grandmothers. The custom was started under socialism and involves the gift giving, specifically flowers.
IWD has been observed since 1911 in Europe. In that year it was honored the first time on 19th March for example in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. They were campaigning for women's rights to work, vote, be trained, to hold public office and end discrimination.
In every year on 8th March, events are held all over the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements.
